Why do we ask so many questions on your first visit to see us.  You may wonder, what has this to do with my teeth? The main reason for such questions is that new research suggests that the health of your mouth mirrors the condition of your body. There are diseases that show signs first in the oral cavity! Having a thorough and accurate medical and dental history helps provide competent and safe care. Here's why!


  1. 90% of all systemic diseases have oral manifestations.
  2. Antibiotic pre-medication may be indicated BEFORE your dental cleaning for heart valve or hip/knee replacement or history of endocarditis.
  3. If you had a heart attack in last 6 months you should defer having your dental cleaning.
  4. Pacemaker we need to know to ensure using an ultrasonic scaler on you is compatible.
  5. Asthma or allergies?  we need to know in case of a medical emergency.
